Revisiting No Name Harbor after Twenty-Some years...

Well now... for the longest time, I only thought that so-called "No Name Harbor" on Key Biscayne was called that for lack of an official name. Turns out that "No Name Harbor" is indeed the harbor's official name.

All in all a recent visit to No-Name Harbor was somewhat of a disappointment. Gone was the foreboding charm of encroaching mangroves and the uneasy feeling of having anchored in the middle of the Amazon.

In any event, this is what Wikipedia has to say about the harbor:

"No Name Harbor is a natural harbor on Key Biscayne, Florida. It is located within the boundaries of Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park. In the 19th century, the site served as a food-rich rookery for herons, egrets, and other species of wildlife.

Originally, the site was privately owned prior to the creation of the state park. Several development plans indicated the land was slated for the construction of condominiums and residential homes.

The surrounding land was cleared for development in the 1950s, and charts identified the body of water as "No Name Harbor".

The plans failed, and the harbor's name was retained."

Sailing Biscayne Bay Just for the Heck of it...

Yeah man!

I love it when steady winds fill the sails and the boat lurches forward while gently gliding across the water. It's effect on one's brain is better than any over the counter anti-depressant that I can think of.

Me thinks that I should be sailing more often...
